Trust Bella Hadid to make an uncanny valley fashion moment look aspirationally cool. For the Heaven by Marc Jacobs fall 2023 campaign, the model has transformed into an AI cyborg, complete with bald head, metal accessories, and the brand’s iconic Kiki boots.
In one picture, the model wears just the Network silver ear cuff, while a lengthy silver tentacle protrudes from the top of her spine. In another, Bella poses in an outfit of metal breast and arm plates resembling a suit of armour, suggesting she’s a half-completed robot version of the real life Hadid.
In other images for the campaign, human Bella Hadid (identifiable by her Earth clothes and full head of hair) is pictured about to lock lips with a robot and side-eyeing a mannequin version of herself.
The vibe is very 1995 Hackers, and I’m not mad at it. It’s making me want one of those colourful see-through landline phones and a Tamagotchi.
Bella Hadid didn’t actually shave her head for the campaign, according to Vogue, and her normal brown locks remain intact. That said, her bone structure looks so incredible in these pics, I wouldn’t put it past, say, Julia Fox to take inspiration and go all in on hairless robot fashion.
