Jennifer Lopez knows her way around a show-stopping hairstyle. She’s given us noughties, Jenny From The Block slicked back buns and sexy senorita volume. She’s the queen of highlights (having served up chunky face-framing moneypiece highlights and golden balayage) and she’ll leap from long to short cuts and back without blinking to keep us on our toes. As for her latest chop, Jennifer turned to hair stylist, Lorenzo Martin, for a shaggy seventies-inspired cut with some 2023 finesse.
Taking to Instagram, JLo posted a picture of her hair deliciously mussed up with shaggy layers and a full, swooshy, lash-skimming fringe. And while she’s channelling retro Charlie’s Angels energy (with a cut that nods to OG angel, Farrah Fawcett), Jen’s version is more glam, polished and shiny than its throwback rendition.
The singer and actress revealed her new haircut with the caption “Bang Bang #thisismenow.”
Although her second slide, which her hairstylist Lorenzo also posted to his account gives an even closer look at the details, including the jaw and collarbone cupping layers, subtle caramel highlights and XXL length.
If you’re interested in taking the cut for a spin yourself, Conchi Fernandez, head stylist at To Be Aguilar Delgado, notes “this 70’s style has layers that are cut close to the face, giving it a retro touch,” she explains. Plus “this highlights around the cheekbones add delicate structure to facial features,” she says.
It is also perfect for creating the illusion of fuller hair, provided you get the layers just right. Too much taken from the top can make the ends look thinner, but sliced slightly longer, from the chin down, it adds a really wearable texture. “This layered hairstyle, especially when paired with heavy bangs, is really comfortable and natural. The layers of this shag cut add volume and movement, leaving straight, simple manes behind,” Conchi confirms.
