Our interest in all things occult has taken off. Over on social media #witchtok is its own bubbling community with 47.5 billion views on TikTok. So expect to see witch makeup fly this Halloween. Even if you’ve not quite got your head around cleansing your crystals in the full moon, burning sage, or DIY enchantments, anyone can tap into the witch aesthetic.
Even better, there’s tons of different ways to interpret the look, whether you connect more with mystic vibes, something more natural and earthy, full out glam, something super scary with special effects, or classic and, um, green (we see you Elphaba). With the Wicked movie set to release next year, you could also jump on the Glinda action early, because who says you can’t be a “good witch”.
Still unsure what kind of witch you are? The TikTok babes have even been offering up witch lewks based on your star sign, so maybe looking to the stars is your first step on the road to becoming the witch you were meant to be.
Take a look at some of our favourite witch makeup ideas ahead. So… which witch will you be channelling this year?

The Occult Witch
Lean into the occult, with apotropaic marks for protection. Donna from Caffeinated Dreamer created the look with the ColourPop Cosmetics Strawberry Shake Palette, but for something similar try the Morphe 9P Petal Passion Artistry Palette and plenty of black liner and mascara.
The Haunted Witch
This makeup with a witches hat would look insane. Choose an eyeshadow palette with the perfect deep red, purple and black (heads up, Abby Roberts’ upcoming palette with Morphe would be perfect for this), then use a fine eyeliner brush to create the veining.
The Glam Green Witch
Even as a green witch, the highlighting, contouring and everything looks perfect. Sofia Blackthorn used NYX’s SFX Creme Colours, but for something similar try Creator Revolution SFX Face Paint Palette, and she used the NYX Born To Glow Palette to bring in the prettiest highlight.

If you cba to marinate in green body makeup, just keep your makeup cute and how you usually do it and add a hat. We won’t judge…
The Creepy Witch
In this Glamour tutorial, makeup artist Lan Nguyen-Grealis takes us through all of the steps to achieve this creepy witch makeup look for Halloween. Key products you’ll need: Mac Pro Eye Palette in The Bad Girl, Kryolan Shimmering Event Foundation and some studs from a craft store. Follow along for this spellbinding look!
Three Ways to Transform Into a Witch
If you can’t quite decide what type of witch to be, Maryam Maquillage gives you three to choose from, all keeping in the same colour theme but varying levels of difficulty. With tones of grey, green shimmer and black, we recommend: e.l.f. Putty Bronzer, By Beauty Bay Earthy 9 Colour Palette and Il Makiage Lip Slip Lipstick and some dramatic lashes to finish the look off, we love Ardell’s 3D Faux Mink Lashes.
The Gory Witch
If gore is on the agenda for your witch costume, look no further than Mav Mav’s tutorial. For this, you’ll need a gel liner, we love the NYX Professional Makeup Epic Black Mousse Liner, a cheap and cheerful red lipstick, we like the Wet N Wild Silk Finish Lipstick Hot Red and some fake blood like Revoluion SFX Fake Blood.
The Dark Witch
This one is a little bit creepy and very impactful. We recommend grabbing Barry M Clickable Eyeshadow in Limitless, NYX Professional Makeup Jumbo Eye Pencil and a wig of your choice.
The Disney Witch
Feeling up for a challenge? Allow Shonagh Scott to teach you how to transform into a Disney-inspired witch. You might need to hit up some SFX makeup shops for this look, finished off with a wig, cape, oh, and a whole lot of patience!
Wicked Elphaba Witch
If you want to go the more glam route but still keep within the witch theme, try dressing as Elphaba from Wicked. You’ll need lots and lots of green body paint, red lipstick and a long flowing wig.
Classic Wicked Witch
Another great makeup look that centres around green paint! Grab that, some nose and chin prosthetics and some dark eyeshadow.
21st Century Witch
Of course, this isn’t historically correct in the slightest but is a take on the witch theme. You’ll need some e.l.f. Precision Liquid Eyeliner, a white wig and some long, black false nails.
Glam Witch
If you want to take a more glam route with your witch Halloween persona then Ashley Quiroz’s big witch energy video will do just the trick. For this look, you’ll need some vibrant red eyeshadow like the Revolution Reloaded Palette Newtrals, lots of blush, a merlot-hued lipstick and white eyeliner.
SFX Witch
If you are someone who doesn’t cut any corners at Halloween and likes to firmly take home the best dressed costume prize every time, then SFX is the direction to go in. This tutorial from Sidney Cumbie is a gritty take on the classic Snow White witch, The Evil Queen, and requires lots of patience, practice and special products — but the effort is well worth it.
